James Cameron’s upcoming epic science fiction film Avatar: The Way of Water is produced by 20th Century Studios. It is the sequel to Cameron’s Avatar film, Avatar (2009).Cameron and Jon Landau are co-producing the film, and Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are co-writing the screenplay, which is based on a story written by all 3 with Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno.

On July 31, 2017, Weta Digital announced that production on the Avatar sequels had begun. The film’s underwater scenes will be heavily featured, and will be shot underwater with the cast using performance capture. It took the team a year and a half to create a new motion capture system that combined underwater filming and performance capture, a never-before-seen feature.

Avatar: The Way of Water- which has been in the works for years, received two Golden Globe nominations earlier this week, for best drama film and best director. Viewers gave it a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while critics gave it a 78%. It also has a Metacritic score of 8.2/10 and a 69/100 from critics.
